Cosmos - Beyond and Within
Merging soundworlds on a cosmic landscape
In this special cosmic event, composer-musicians Keyna Wilkins and Diego Idarraga Duarte join forces with string quartet QuartEd (Caitlin Sandiford, Sarah Qui, Karen Cortez, Connor Malanos) to create a new music journey through the cosmos accompanied by NASA's astronomic imagery.
Keyna Wilkins is a pioneering Australian/British composer-musician. She is a two-time finalist for the Australian Art Music Awards for Individual Excellence in 2021 and 2018 (APRA/AMCOS). She has been heralded by UK's Jazz Journal as a "powerhouse player" and described as "fine and nuanced playing" by Limelight Magazine. Her compositions have been described by The Sydney Morning Herald as "arresting, genre-blurring, disquieting music with massive breadth and high drama".
Diego Idarraga Duarte is a passionate and versatile Colombo-Australian new composer and performer. Duarte combines in his pieces the influence of classical music with contemporary sonorities and modern intellectual twists.
QuartEd are four music performers, educators and friends that love to share all forms of string music together. Having met at Sydney Conservatorium, they now perform regularly around Australia. They engage and interact with a wide variety of audiences through a diverse range of music - with a focus on contemporary and new works.
Together these artists have created a unique journey of cosmos-influenced new music.
