Orphalese, a concert of exhilarating classical music by the Andalus Arabic Choir and soprano Ghada Daher-Elmowy takes you on a magical journey from the Middle-East to Andalusia. It is where vocals and music create counterpoints to indulge you in Tarab, a euphoric state of enjoyment.
Orphalese vivifies Sydney’s nightlife with captivating rhythms, nostalgic melodies and exotic airs to transport you to a dream of an oriental midsummer night.
The concert duration is 120 min, two sets and an interval. Orphalese includes a tribute to Kahlil Gibran's centenary of The Prophet, songs from his publications, short poetry readings in English and Arabic, as well as a mix of songs from a broader repertoire.
Conducted by soprano Ghada Daher-Elmowy and featuring elite musicians: Dr Noel Elmowy MD (piano), Catherine Azzi (cello), Charbel Azzi (oud), Christopher Soulos (bass guitar), James Tawadros (req), Mohamed Lelo (qanun), Mustafa Al Tayar (violin), Samir Ghoussoub (percussion), Stuart Van deGraaff (wind), Philip Elmowy (drums).
The Andalus Arabic Choir is a multicultural non-profit organisation reflecting the love of Arabic and Andalusian music showcasing our rich music and culture.
