Emma Harrison
Actor, The Lost Boys
Dance performer and educator Emma Harrison is a graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts and LINK Dance Company, also holding a postgraduate degree in Media Arts and Production. Emma lives and works on the unceded lands of the Gadigal and Dharug people, Sydney/Warrang, Australia. She had a nomadic upbringing around regional Australia. This most notably included Gooreng Country/ Gladstone, Central Queensland, and Yuin Country, Nowara NSW.
Emma’s multidisciplinary practice encompasses contemporary dance, sung and spoken voice, film and theatre. Her works investigate the micro (personal histories and narrative) as a means to interrogate the macro; weaving humour amongst a highly physical, sensation-driven movement vocabulary.
Emma is the engagement/education officer for Dance Makers Collective, designing and facilitating high school and primary school dance programs. She regularly lectures in tertiary institutions and schools in NSW.
As a dancer, Emma is a member of the Dance Members Collective (DMC) and works with independent choreographers across Australia. Recent performance credits include:
- Australian tours of DMC’s THe Rivolo and DADS
- Sydney Festival 2020
- The Rivoli
- Tra Mi Dinh’s (UP)HOLDING (Brand X Flying Nun Sydney, Dancehouse Melbourne).
As the inaugural recipient of the DMC RAPPORT International Artist Residency 2022, she travelled to Brighton (UK) South East Dance space for a funded 3-week residency with sound designer Amy Flannery. This will be presented in 2024.
Her choreographic works have been presented by March Dance Festival, Art Month Sydney, Ausdance NSW, Bondi Feast, Crack X Festival, Strut Dance WA, Sydney Fringe Festival, and Fremantle Arts Centre. She has also been a DirtyFeet Choreographic Out of the Studio recipient.
