Past Event

When martial arts meet Chinese dance, the result is Convergence: a stunning modern fusion of power, agility, and beauty. Hong Kong Dance Company’s bold new programme marries a unique dialogue between tranquillity and exuberance, stillness and motion and follows a collaboration between the two Eastern traditions since 2018. Experts say it has implications for dancers and choreographers around the world.

Choreographed by Hong Kong Dance Company’s award-winning Artistic Director, Yang Yuntao, Convergence was developed to gain new perspectives on movement, with dancers studied and trained with the masters of Southern Chinese martial arts for years. Visually spectacular, it incorporates specially crafted digital art which brings together old-world cultures with the latest in new media.

Winner of the 13th China Dance Lotus Awards (Contemporary Dance), the most prestigious national awards for dancing in China.

''Convergence with dizzying speed and cut-glass specificity, the dancers whirl through challenging sequences that are downright thrilling, but executed with ease.''
